Poor Rabbie had to go to the vet today. This morning I noticed while he was eating that he had a good size tear in his skin. It was pretty deep too. I think he must have had a close encounter with the sharp side of a hog panel. We have lots of them and some that are not currently being used leaning against a fence inside the barn. When Emily and Rabb are "helping" with chores they get pretty intense when the sheep come in the barn. Rabb must have ran right into one.
The vet had to trim the edges of the cut before stapling it together. She told me they do this all the time to gun dogs without sedating them. Since Rabb is only 6 months old now I decided he shouldn't be put through that so he was sedated.
Here you see the staples which of course need to come out after I leave for the UK. The vet was kind enough to loan us a staple remover so Bob can take them out. Poor Rabbie.......

I bet you thought I'd disappeared again! It's all about Rabb these days. I wake up in the morning, he goes outside. I make him his breakfast, I go get him from his exercise pen. He plays with Emily for awhile, I take him back out to his pen. Fortunately he does his business out there very quickly so he can come in and play some more.
He is finally standing still long enough (barely) for some pics. We absolutely LOVE this little guy. He is such a character, he makes us laugh all the time. Yes, even when we have to clean out his crate, we think he's cute!
We haven't forgotten Emily in all this! Emily is unforgettable. She is what started us down this road. This weekend Emily and I are taking a trip. We are heading to Richland Center WI to visit Littledale Farm to pick out some sheep just for her (after this we are off to Indiana to visit some Shetland Farms). We will use these sheep to get her trained so that she can help us manage our flock of Shetlands. Next year it will be Rabb's turn.

It's about the only way to photograph the little bugger! Rabb arrived on Wednesday night and is settling in after his very long journey. He and Emily have become quite good friends. She hasn't even growled at him yet! You'll notice he is being thoroughly spoiled. He and I were watching a movie together on the couch tonight. Well at least one of us was watching the movie...
Rabb is already showing interest in the sheep, he likes to herd barn cats and he has been giving our house cat a run for her money too. He has also decided one of the stones in the foundation of our grainery is evil and we need to be protected from it. It's good to have him home!

Meet Rabb! Rabb is our soon to be new Border Collie from England. He is now 4 weeks old and growing fast. I was looking for a Scottish name for him and Rabbie happened to be a character in the books I've been reading lately. Rabb's sire's name is Bob and Rabb is a nickname for Robert. Rabb's brother, River will also be coming to live here in Wyoming.
Emily has been put to work here (finally!). With 32 very pregnant ewes to feed each day it gets a little precarious when filling the feeders. Our ewes LOVE their grain and don't care if I get caught in the middle. So, Emily and I have been moving the ewes out of the barn so that we can put their feed out in peace. She is very happy to help!
Speaking of pregnant ewes, our due date is just 10 days away! Katy will be our first to lamb this year (I know because Katy was very cooperative when we set up the breeding groups) and she is bred to Banning our mioget HST ram we purchased last summer from the Ludlams in MI.
Updates will be posted here when lambing begins!!
